What Is PCD Tooling?
Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) consists of a layer of diamond bonded to a carbide substrate. The diamond layer provides high hardness and abrasion resistance, whereas the substrate improves the toughness and weldability.
PCD Applications
Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is generally recommended for the machining of non-ferrous workpiece materials where high abrasion resistance is required.
Examples of typical workpiece materials are as follows:
Metal matrix composites, Aluminium alloys, Copper, Brass, Bronze, Magnesium alloys, Ceramics, Fibre glass, Carbon fibre, Plastic, Rubber, Pre-sintered (green) and sintered tungsten carbide.
Due to its high abrasion resistance, PCD is also ideal for use in wear part applications (both ferrous and non-ferrous contact surfaces).
